CARDINALS SWEEP INDIANS 17-2, AND 14-4 TO CLIMB BACK OVER .50011.07.2010
Tobias Imboden suffered one bad inning, allowing two earned runs en route to another complete game victory as the Cards disposed of the Indians via mercy rule in 6 innings. Tobias struck out five along the way, allowing only four hits. The offense began in a big way as six hits, and two errors allowed eight of the first nine batters to score in an eight run first. Three runs in both the second and third innings sealed what would eventually be a short game for the visitor, as the Cards ran away for the victory. Angelo Rodriguez chipped in with three hits; John Baum knocked out his third homerun of the year; Johnny Perigos remained hot with two hits and a double; and Imboden helped his own cause with two doubles. Game two pitted two Americans on the mound, as Baum and Jon Marc Walls went at it. It didn't take long for the Indians to realize the Cardinals had there eyes on the sweep as Samuel Paulino smacked his third hit of the day to lead off the game. Following Baum's RBI single, Johnny Perigos crushed a two run shot deep over the left field fence for a 3-0 first inning lead. The Cards scored in all but one inning of the game, and had at least two runs in each of those innings against the Walls brothers. All in all they connected on 11 hits, as Rodriguez once again led the way with another three hit performance, capped by six stolen bases on the day! Samuel Paulino electrified the game with his blinding speed by completing an inside the park homerun in Chavannes small ball park! Baum struggled once again with control issues, allowing two earned runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts. The two wins leave the Cards in fourth place at 12-10. The team anticipates the return of Seth Suplin, Vitus Huber, and Lexu Walchli in August. The NLA team thanks the four NLB players for joining us, and their great contributions on the field as well! The Cards have two weekends off before resuming the season August 1st at Luzern versus the Eagles.
